Eligibility and how to apply

Build on your sporting success

We award sports scholarships and funding every year to students who:

  • have achieved highly in sports
  • want to build on their success and represent their schools and Club.

Eligibility

You must be:

  • a current student in any year of study at any school in Buhera District,
  • be under the age of 18 years.

You must:

  • have a proven track record of sporting excellence, racing and training spanning at least 12 months.
  • be a member of the Buhera Sporting Club
  • have achieved at least one club silver standard in the past 12 months. (see Club Standards for guidance)

You must commit to:

  • improving in your sport
  • representing the Club, District and your school at events, where applicable
  • consistently train and improve performance
  • not engage in substance abuse or doping of any kind

Scholarships

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must compete in one of the following Performance Clubs:

  • athletics
  • football
  • netball
  • rugby
  • cycling

To be a Sports Scholar, you must:

  • be a student at an eligible school in Buhera District
  • represent the school or district
  • compete district events, where applicable
Scholarship package
Criteria

Regional/National/Continental/International standard (see Club Standards for guidance) within the last 12 months. Students should be part of a sporting club, grassroots club, school sporting club or equivalent.

Funding

Up to US$1,000

Services received
  • Individual and/or small group Strength and Conditioning sessions
  • Access to medical services, including physiotherapy and sports massage
  • Professional coaching
  • Mentoring/lifestyle support
  • Athlete workshop programme covering topics such as sports physiology, nutrition, psychology, screenings, injury prevention and management, and lifestyle management
  • Sport science support
  • Access to training facilities
  • Performance video analysis

Sports scholarship applications are now open. The application deadline is 31 December each year for consideration in the upcoming year, i.e. 31 December 2023 for scholarships in 2024.

Sports funding

If your sport isn’t listed, or you’ve reached representative honours within the last 12 months and need support, fill in the form. If you’ve been selected for higher representative honours, wait until you know your competition dates before applying.
